Baptism

The discussion that was generated on my last post has me thinking about the subject of baptism.
The discussion went way beyond the old arguments of whether baptism is necessary (essential) for salvation or not - the discussion actually was about who's baptism was good enough and who's was not.

This is just an attempt to keep the discussion going.

Listen to the words of this song, and tell me if it describes Biblical Baptism?
Could the Preacher in the song have been Baptist, or Methodist, or something other than Church of Christ? Would you accept the young man's baptism? Would you accept him as a brother in Christ? Could he become a member of your church without being re-baptized?

What do you think?

It was obviously not a Church of Christ group. I hear music :)

I think this person missed the point! Yes, he would be my brother! He was made right with the Lord. His heart was right and he was cleansed just as they did back in the time of Jesus. anonymous was not listening to the words. He was to worried about the music. The music had nothing to do with his salvation.

I really don't mean to be offensive here, but didn't expect many comments on this one - especially from my strict CoC friends.

It is too politically incorrect to discuss in polite company.

The sad truth is, to most of them, (not all, but most) the method, the sincerity, the reasons, and circumstances surrounding one's baptism are all null, vain, and void, unless you are baptized by an approved Church of Christ preacher, in an approved Church of Christ building.

According to most (not all, but most)of my strict CoC friends, The young man in the song probably would have been saved only until the next Sunday morning when he walked back into his Baptist church building to worship.

They publicly teach and insist that Baptism "saves" you, but that's not the whole story.
The whole story is much deeper and darker than that.

While at Harding we posted pictures that someone had emailed us. They were of US solders being baptized in horse troughs. One of the Bible professors said "that didn't count" because the young man was holding onto the sides. He said that because we wouldn't bury someone with their hands out of the ground, then his baptism was "invalidated". So yes, I do believe you when you say that some believe it is not Baptism that saves you but "Church of Christ Baptism".
